Help us celebrate photography with photoholics across the globe on August 19th 2012. August 19th is the day that the French government gifted the invention of the photograph to the world in 1839.
Our annual celebration of photography falls on a Sunday this year - normally a day off for us but not this particular Sunday! Today we're celebrating the birth of photography so we'll be open for festivities from 10.00am to 2.00pm. and you're all invited to join us. We're planning a day down memory lane with a look at some older photo developing processes.
DAGUERROTYPE & DUFAY DISPLAY
The first photo was the Daguerrotype and Waikato is home to Alan from Cased Image, who specialises in making fine Daguerreotypes. Alan is lending us a display of daguerreotypes, old and new, and some salt prints for display on the day. If the weather is fine Alan will try and take a plate on Sunday and develop in his trailer darkroom..
Bessy A. will lend us a few of her DUFAYCOLOR Colour Transparencies and VIEWING BOX.
Dating back to the 1930~1950s, these intrigued us when we fist saw them - a large colour transparency with a silver coating and requiring a special viewer to see the image clearly.
OLDEST CAMERA COMPETITION
Graham loves seeing the old cameras come into our store on World Photography Day so bring in your old camera - there will be a prize for the oldest on the day.
PHOTO DAY SPECIALS
* Camera & Accessory specials on the day
* 50% off all posters ordered through our kiosks on the day - 11x14" and larger.
